Publishing Your Site
For Free

You've made yourself a site to be proud of, but how and where to strut your stuff? Finding free hosting is relatively simple, though the host will more than likely want you to advertise for him in exchange for his services. Besides a hosting service, you'll need file transfer software to get your files to the server. Then, once on the Web, you'll want to submit your site to the search engines to let the world know you're here.

Free Web Hosts

  • Cybercities - 25MB free space and no ad banners! They are experiencing growing pains at the moment so there may be a time lag between the time that you actually sign up and you receive your log on information. There also may be as much as a 10 minute wait to log on to the servers for uploading files. It should get better after the new year with new servers. MP3's and video files are not allowed.
  • Digiweb - 10MB free space, free chat and bulletin board, and CGI scripts.
  • Xoom - The Xoom graphics are displayed in a narrow band across the top of your pages. At least it's better than those obnoxious pop up windows and banners that you get on some of the other free host servers! Unlimited server space.
  • Fortune City - A large online community with many neighborhoods for special interest groups. 20MB of space. Large ad banners are placed at the top of your pages.
  • Geocities - A very popular free Web host. Friendly, helpful, community oriented with lots online support for publishing your pages.15 MB of space and lots of CGI scripts to use. The pop up ads are still there, but they aren't as large and annoying as they used to be.
  • Tripod - Another community of free Web page owners. Has online answering machines, personal chat rooms and more.
  • Hypermart - This site is for ecommerce and any kind of business hosting. They offer you your own CGI bin, FrontPage extensions and short addresses. They do put pop up ads on your pages, though. Good online suport.
  • Virtual Ave - Another business hosting site that offers your own CGI bin, SSI and 20MB of space. They also provide short addresses, but put an ad banner on the top of all of your pages.
  • Free Web Space Net - This site provides a very comprehensive listing of the free Web hosts on the net. The features and reviews that are provided for each host are very thorough and helpful. Definitely a site you'll want to visit.

  • WS FTP LE - Windows, Windows NT, and windows 3.X - Free.
